APPLICATIONS
Applications to the graduate programs at EMU can be made twice a year, prior to the beginning of each semester. Application deadlines are announced on the Institute’s and the Registrar’s Office’s web sites.

All applicants for whom English is a second language are required to pass a proficiency examination organized by EMU, or present a recent TOEFL or IELTS score.
Prospective applicants are required to fill out an application form available at the http://grad.emu.edu.tr or at Registrar's Office, and submit the completed form to the Registrar’s Office, together with a letter of reference and an official transcript of all graduate and undergraduate coursework completed up to the time of application. Candidates are required in addition to submit a document of financial guarantee showing that sufficient funds are available for tuition and living expenses.

A list of documents needed for application is given below:
- Fully completed application form, signed and dated
- An official transcript of all university-level courses taken*
- A comparative mark/grade table if CGPA on the transcript is not out of 4.00*
- Attested photocopies of diplomas received from a university or equivalent institutions* (i.e. 4 years study bachelor degree)
*English translations of these documents are necessary if they are in any language other than English.
- Background or training in English (must be documented)
- Three letters of reference (not required for EMU graduates)

- Statement of Purpose / Intention: (Please submit on a separate sheet: Your purpose in applying to the program chosen, explaining your motivation as well as the areas of specialization which would be of interest to you within the discipline)

English Language Requirements:
All applicants for whom English is a second language are required to pass a proficiency examination organized by EMU, or present a recent TOEFL or IELTS score. This is not valid for those applying the programs in which the medium of instruction is Turkish. Students who cannot demonstrate their English Proficiency level are required to sit for the English Proficiency Test conducted by EMU Department of English Language Teaching. Students who cannot obtain a passing mark are admitted to the School of Foreign Languages at the EMU to improve their English for one or two semesters.

EVALUATION OF YOUR APPLICATION
As soon as your application is received, it is evaluated by the department applied and the final decision is made by the Institute of Graduate Studies & Research. The result is forwarded to your postal address by the Registrar’s office. An acceptance letter is posted to the postal address of eligible applicants and a rejection letter to the applicant whose academic qualifications are not sufficient. Incomplete application forms are not taken into consideration.
TUITION FEES
Tuition fee for full-time study for the 2007-2208 academic year was 2932.50 USD per semester in the Engineering Faculty and 2417.50 USD in all other faculties. The tuition fee for the 2008-2009 academic years will be announced soon. Full-time study covers 4 courses or 3 courses and thesis registration. In case of registering to less than 4 courses, the tuition fee is recalculated in accordance with the number of courses registered. Registering only to the thesis is subject to payment as well.
SCHOLARSHIPS & RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP
Every semester each faculty allocates a number of research assistant positions for graduate students according to the faculty budget and the load of work rather than granting scholarships. Students whose undergraduate CGPA is above 3.00 out of 4.00 can apply for research assistantship which is very competitive. A full- time research assistant gets exemption from tuition fee as long as his/her assistantship continues and has a salary. Part-time research assistants are exempted from only one module’s tuition fee and have a salary. For more information please contact http://grad.emu.edu.tr or the related faculty/ department.
VISA
If there is any, please go to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Representative Office (www.trncinfo.com) to get visa for North Cyprus with the following documents. Then apply to the Turkish Embassy or Consulate with your TRNC VISA together with the following documents:
If there is no TRNC Representative Office in your country, directly go to Turkish Embassy or Consulate to get a transit-visa for Turkey with the following documents. Please visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs web site at www.mfa.gov.tr for the closest Turkish Embassy to your area.

N.B: All flights to North Cyprus are connected through Turkey. Therefore, you need a Transit-Visa for Turkey even your final destination is North Cyprus (ERCAN or GECITKALE Airport)
LOCATION
EMU is located in Gazimagusa (Famagusta) in Turkish Republic Of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea with its unique proximity to Europe, Asia and Africa. Gazimagusa, is a lovely coast town with a very quiet and friendly atmosphere, at the Crossroads of culture. The town is only 40 minutes away from the international Ercan Airport with easy transportation facilities.

CAMPUS LIFE
Accommodation
Dormitories at Eastern Mediterranean University are all designed to meet the needs of the students at the best possible way. Every detail has been thought of to create a silent and peaceful studying environment. Students can choose from 14 different types of on – campus dormitories that can accommodate up to 3,350 students. Students can also rent flat or rooms in private hostels in Gazimagusa (Famagusta) (rent is around 150 USD per month).
Social Activities
Life at EMU is in general pleasant and comfortable. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities and may join a broad range of social and cultural events in the university. There are numerous student clubs and societies at EMU for a wide range of activities including tennis, basketball, volleyball, football, handball, cricket, climbing, chess, ceramics, journalism, art, science and culture, literature, folklore, drama and animation, music, cinema, and photography. Also, every year EMU organizes an International ‘Spring Festival’ which includes all sort of social, cultural and sport activities for ten days. The EMU Radio and TV station are also operated by students, and broadcasts musical and cultural programs.
The campus is also very lively with lots of green and recreation areas where the Mediterranean climate offers warm and sunny weather almost nine months in a year.
Canteens & Cafeterias
There are nearly 45 canteen, cafeteria and restaurants for students that their hygenity and pricing procedures are regularly controlled by the University Administration.
University Facilities
The modern library, 25 research centres, 80 student computer laboratories with free access to Internet, 50 student clubs, sport teams in 16 different sport activities, outdoor and indoor sport complexes (http://spor.emu.edu.tr), cafeterias, book store, post office, bank and ATMs of some banks, internet café, fully equipped Medical Centre, the Psychological Counselling Guidance and Research Centre and in the dormitories area barber & coiffure, laundry, shops, bike renting service offer students an excellent studying and living environment in addition to social enrichment.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Unfortunately, students are not allowed to work in North Cyprus. However, students are welcomed to apply for part time jobs in the University administration. Students can work in the following departments within University campus: Registrar’s Office, Dormitories, Library, Computer Centre, Security Office, Public Relations, Promotion Office, Canteens & Cafeterias, etc. On the other hand, it is possible to find job outside the campus.

The International Centre was established to meet the demands and needs of international students from 68 different countries.
